NoteTote for Mac OS X →
For those of us who work behind a firewall this could be quite a wonderful, powerful utility. Seems well worth $5 to me. minimalmac: I don’t want the week to pass without taking some time out to thanks NoteTote for sponsoring this week’s RSS Feed. NoteTote lets you remotely tell your Mac at home to download files. That’s it. Just leave NoteTote running in the menubar on your home Macintosh...

What The US Could Learn From Finland About... →
Interesting read on how the Finns have tackled education. I have to admit their public schools sound a lot more like our super expensive private schools. However, given that we are cutting teacher jobs at the current crappy salaries, I don’t know how we could ever achieve something like this in the US.

According to the Austin Chronicle, Solid Waste Services hoped to re-brand itself by…

Cross-Posting, Reblogging, and General Baby Spam
For anyone who does read this blog and doesn’t want to read about my baby I apologize for the extra posts. I keep forgetting to change which blog I am publishing to especially when posting from my phone. Anyway, I don’t think anyone is really upset, but be prepared for lots of random posts and double posts until I get a better system in place.

Travel Update
Just wanted to put up a quick note to let people know that Penny made it to Houston safely. She is in the best of care just waiting for mom and dad to catch up. We got out of Austin a bit later than planned but are on our way now and should be at Texas Children’s in the next couple hours unless Houston’s notorious traffic keeps us longer. I will try and update as I can once we get...

Those big ears can hear!
Just before Penelope was prepped for her flight to Houston she had her hearing test. She passed with flying colors! Dad will be playing her lots of good tunes as soon as possible.

Brewery Map Update
Every time I turn around there is a new brewery announcing plans to open. In 2010 Austin welcomed Jester King, Thirsty Planet, Circle Brewing (just started brewing this month), and Black Star Co-op. San Antonio got Ranger Creek which is an interesting beast in itself with the whole brewery/distillery aspect. Anyway, I will keep the map updated with future and current breweries as best I can. ...

I know I don’t update this blog much anymore, but my employer recently decided that tumblr is something that should be blocked… Anyway, I’m working from home today, so I thought I would share some good music deals I noticed yesterday. Obamacare can't get here fast enough
I filed a claim for a flu shot recently. I just got a letter from United Healthcare asking for proof of prior coverage. They are looking for a pre-existing condition for a flu shot. I wish I could say this is the only stupid thing UHC has done.

Oh Monsanto, your evil seems to have no bounds. Apparently, now they are paying farmers to spray extra herbicides on their round-up ready crops since weeds are becoming round-up resistant. Did you wash your vegetables before dinner?

the BELG-INDIAN beer dinner →
Finally someone in Austin is doing a veg-friendly beer dinner! Sadly, due to el bebe and home repairs I can’t possibly justify $50 for a dinner. Oh well, hopefully this is only the first of many beer dinners with non-meat options.
