To brew, perchance to dream →
First off, I apologize for linking to Austin360 their page layout is terrible. But look past that and read the article about two aspiring brewer upstarts. My personal favorite quote:
The guy believes that in a decade Austin’s beer market will be comparable “to a Denver or a Portland.” Let us hope.
I always get excited about having more local beer options. Let us hope this is a trend.

Linux Against Poverty
I’m not even sure how many people that read this blog live in Austin, but if you do and you have a spare computer lying around collecting dust think about donating it. If you want to learn more about linux against poverty check their website. Anyway, here’s the official stuff:
Have a spare computer lying around? Are you a local business with some computers ready for goodwill or...
Video Games on the Horizon
I was flipping through my massive backlog of unread items in my Ars Technica RSS feed and I saw an article about Scribblenauts. I know I’ve heard other people talking about this game, though I can’t remember where. Anyway, this game just sounds amazing. It’s going be coming out on the DS September 15th, and I can’t wait. I’s a puzzle game, but when you are...
FYI...
The topping of brown sugar toaster pastries is extremely flammable. Don’t let your toaster pastry fall between the cracks and touch the toaster oven’s heating elements. Consider this your PSA for the day.

Brooklyn Fare’s Packaging and Graphic Design →
Great, simple design. This reminds me of those Target tissue boxes that just say Tissue in Helvetica and soap that says Soap. Although the Target products are a good example of great packaging and a terrible product at least for the tissues. Follow the link for more branding.
Gameboy's got nothing on this →
Check out this little handheld gaming device from Thinkgeek. You can load up ROMS for NES, Atari, C64, SNES, Gameboy, and more! It’s like childhood in your hand…well my childhood anyway. Things like this never cease to amaze me, given how much I had to beg as a kid to get an NES and now you can get like 8 video game systems in one handheld device…it’s just craziness!

Two song Digital 45s now available in iTunes →
Interesting idea. Though I’m curious who this is really aimed at since most kids today don’t know what an LP is (hell even a cassette tape is foreign), let alone know what a 45 is. Anyway, it might worth checking out to see if there is a 2-song bundle that fits your personal taste.
Radio Gaga →
Seems like an interesting application to record internet radio and export to iTunes. I have to say this would be nice to grab KEXP in-studio performances since it seems like there is always a meeting during the best performances. I’m not sure I can think of any other reason though so I don’t know if it’s worth the $20 promo price and I definitely couldn’t justify the $40...

Sick of the del.icio.us bloat? Remember when it was just a nice simple bookmarking site? Well, now you can get back that simplicity with pinboard. I’ve been using Instapaper for a bit, which is great for stuff you want to read later, but it doesn’t cover the bookmarking and tagging ability of delicious.

Aside from the horrid layout of the maclife website (when the ad and other content columns are together wider than the article there is a problem). This is a fun look at some of the neat things at the Mythbusters’ Headquarters.
I'm a big geek
Who’s a big geek this weekend? This guy right here. I am attending the No Fluff Just Stuff conference this weekend. Starting yesterday I get to sit for 3 days straight and listen to people talk about Java stuff!
All right, for those still awake I’m actually pretty psyched about this. Yesterday proved to be very interesting and today’s talks show promise as well. At the end...

Money Jars
I was reading this article yesterday and it got me thinking that it would make for a fun DIY project.
If you don’t feel like reading the article, the idea is to create a sort of automatic savings plan/budget. You allocate all your income by percentage into a set of jars, then as you need to spend your money, you pull the money out of the appropriate jar (or in the case of the savings...

Glad I grabbed Delicious Library for the iPhone when I did. Amazon forced Delicious Monster to pull the app because they were using the Product Advertisement API. Seems like an odd choice to me since, ya know it was advertising for products on Amazon, but whatever makes you happy Amazon…

Very interesting development. I’m not giving up my mac anytime soon, but I love to see the competition especially such a potentially revolutionary change. I think it will be very worth my while to keep my web programming skills up to date, maybe pick up Google Web Toolkit.
Jalapenos - good, Hummus - good, Jalapeno...
Saw this recipe in the Johnson’s Backyard Garden newsletter. This could be really good.
Jalapeno Hummus, from allrecipes.com
1 cup garbanzo beans 1/3 cup canned jalapeno pepper slices, juice reserved 3 tablespoons tahini 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon curry powder crushed red pepper to taste

Aside from having appeal based on the name, this site caught my eye when it was reviewed on GeekDad. You pay $2.99 a year and RenewBot will auto-renew your library books for you and send you emails or texts to remind you to return your books when they are due.
If you are the type of person that forgets to return items to the library then $2.99 a years seems like a small price to pay. Hell, it...
