Sean Recommends
Hey Everyone, it’s that time again when I recommend some crap that you probably don’t want to read about, but it makes me happy and passes a lazy Sunday morning. This week I want to recommend something really exciting…wait for it…a bank! But not just any bank, a social media bank. Wow I feel douchy just typing that I can’t imagine saying it out loud, but hear me...

Confessions of a Slow Book Reader
Since reading Daemon I’ve been on the start of a book kick. Well a book kick for me, which means actually reading more than one book a year that isn’t Harry Potter. I just finished up Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins. This is a book that that came up quite often as an audible pick on This Week in Tech and that I have been curious about since hearing the premise. ...

New Brewery in Town →
I had previously linked to an article from the Austin 360 Liquid blog about a couple of new breweries coming to Austin (hopefully) next year.  Well, somehow or another I completely missed the link to the Jester King website.  It’s not much, but they do have a blog which, among other things, mentioned a preview tasting on September 15th.  I really do hope that these new breweries are a sign...

The ebook reader that really could change things →
Oh Holy Cow!!!  I just came across this blurb about the new Sony ebook reader from Engadget and it could possibly be what I would actually want from an ebook reader.  From what I can tell in this article you will be able to “check out” ebooks from your local public library.  After 14-29 days (set by the library) the book will be deleted off your reader.  Basically, the library is just...

Childhood Confession →
When I was little and bored in church I would imagine what it would be like to convert the church into a house and how awesome it would be given all the open space (whaddya want I grew up Catholic, mass isn’t exactly engrossing).  This lady takes my idea to the next level!

(Almost) Time to Upgrade →
In case you are a mac user and live under a rock. Don’t forget to order up your copy of Snow Leopard. Amazon is offering free shipping to get it to you by Friday. If you have more than one computer, then (wo)man up and buy the Family Pack it’s still only $49 and did I mention that with this upgrade you actually free up disk space, when was the last time that happened with an OS...

YYY vs BB →
While I would much have rather seen the Beastie Boys, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs always put on a great show so I guess Friday isn’t a total loss. Now C3 just has to replace Lily Allen

Comics on Crack
When I was a kid, my favorite part of Sunday morning was getting to take the comics out of the Sunday paper and read through them.  Like any kid I skipped the Mary Worth and other old school comics that just seemed weird to me, but otherwise I read all of them.  I have to imagine that half of it or more didn’t make sense to me, but I loved it. These days, I don’t get a Sunday paper...

COBRA!!!!!
Last week at work a small group of us were discussing GI Joe.  In general we agreed that we did not want to see the new GI Joe movie and the reviews seem to back up that thought. Anyway, someone had a great theory about why no one was ever killed or even shot in GI Joe with so many lasers.  The theory was that long ago in the battle between the Joes and Cobra so many people were dying in the war...

District 9
Holy Hell, go see District 9 now! The wife and I went to see it this past weekend and wow, just wow. It is brutal, intense, completely engrossing, and even has a message. If you are easily grossed out, this one may not be for you, but if you can get past that aspect of the film it really is great. I don’t want to go into what it’s about here. I think part of the awesomeness is...

Amber Ale: Brewing Beer From 45-Million-Year-Old... →
Interesting article about ancient yeast extracted from amber and now making beer (sadly only in California for now).  The only thing that made me sad is the last paragraph that discusses how the guy who found the yeast is trying to basically patent them so no one else can use them.  I’ll still drink the beer if I can find it though.

Google Reader Tip o' the Day
Wow, three posts in one morning, I must be bored.  I just found out about a kickass feature that I wish I had known about sooner.  There is a setting for Google Reader that will add a Send To link at the bottom of each post.  They have settings included that are pre-configured for many top sites like twitter, tumblr, facebook, instapaper, etc.  So you check a few check boxes and then you can...

Shake it Photo →
ZOMG, Ever since I saw Poladroid my first thought was, that’s such a cool app, but I want it on my iPhone (although I didn’t actually have an iPhone at the time, so I thought…not the point).  Anyway, ShakeItPhoto appears to be just that!  Take a picture with your iPhone and then as Outkast taught us in such a catchy way, Shake it Like a Polaroid Picture.  You are left with an...

Hello, I don’t think I’ve actually ever said who I am…and I’m not going to now, but suffice it to say I’m Sean and I occasionally post silly links and stuff here. Enough about me.  We all like something and there are those things that you like enough that you want to tell other people about it.  So, I figured this would be a cool place to occasionally write about...

Light Summer Reading
I just finished reading Daemon by Daniel Suarez.  If you are looking for a deep and meaningful book to read this summer, then I strongly suggest you look for something else.  However, if you are a geek and are looking for some techie fluff, then you have come to the right place. I picked up this book on recommendation from a few of the speakers at the No Fluff Just Stuff conference I attended a...

Incredible Video →
Great video for Coldplay’s Strawberry Swing.  Say what you will about the band, this video is amazing.  Thanks to Sam for the find (as are all good music related finds) Random side thought: I think we need some sort of MTV 2.0 to encourage more stuff like this.  I miss watching shows like 120 minutes and such.  Youtube and random links just don’t have the same way of sucking you in...

This may not be a big deal to anyone else, but I’m super excited about this!  I used NetNewsWire for about a year, but then abandoned it for google reader since I could check my google reader anywhere I had a browser.  But now I can read my google reader posts from home on NetNewsWire and from the web elsewhere.  If you haven’t tried NNW and you have a mac, check it out, you...

Free Purple Rain Cover Album!
So I found a link to this a few weeks back, but only just got around to downloading it.  Apparently Spin pulled together 9 bands to do a cover of one song each from Purple Rain.  I was skeptical, but I have to say there are some gems in there.  So if you dig Prince at all I think it’s worth grabbing this freebie.  Just go to Spin’s site here and the secret keyword is...
