Video Games on the Horizon

I was flipping through my massive backlog of unread items in my Ars Technica RSS feed and I saw an article about Scribblenauts.  I know I’ve heard other people talking about this game, though I can’t remember where. Anyway, this game just sounds amazing.  It’s going be coming out on the DS September 15th, and I can’t wait.  I’s a puzzle game, but when you are presented with a puzzle you write in a word and whatever that word is will become an item in the game that you can interact with to solve the puzzle.  The example given in the article was that to get a cat out of a tree you could write in cat food to entice the cat out of the tree or you could write in trampoline and jump up to get the cat.  Now this concept is all well and good, but I know what you’re thinking…”This is going to be like those old text games where it just constantly wouldn’t understand your input.”  Well, that’s the buzz around this game.  Apparently the creators have been bringing it around to trade shows and letting people try to stump it.  As they go, they just keep adding to their library of items and it just sounds amazing.  Anyway, come September 15th, I do believe I will be getting this game.

While I was on Amazon checking out the release date for Scribblenauts there was a link to the New Super Mario Bros. game that looks pretty damn awesome. From the preview video it looks like Super Mario Brothers games from the NES and SNES, just updated with some prettier graphics and cooler stuff. Frankly, that is enough to get me really excited! I am all for an updated side scroller with the Mario Brothers. This one is definitely going on the list as well.
