Last week at work a small group of us were discussing GI Joe. In general we agreed that we did not want to see the new GI Joe movie and the reviews seem to back up that thought.
Anyway, someone had a great theory about why no one was ever killed or even shot in GI Joe with so many lasers. The theory was that long ago in the battle between the Joes and Cobra so many people were dying in the war that they made a pact that they wouldn’t shoot each other anymore. Instead, they would both shoot as close to the opposing force as possible, but if you ever actually killed anyone you immediately lost the war. This theory was backed up by the fact that there was a scene where a Cobra shot out the outline of a person in the wall behind them, but did not hit the person. Yet, they couldn’t shoot the person when needed. Obviously, they were well trained with weapons, but were trying not to hit the other side.
All of this leads to my original intent with this post. One of the co-workers involved in this conversation passed along these awesome McSweeny’s articles the other day and I just had to share.
