This is a pretty cool concept. You setup your credit card information on your iPhone and when you get to a bar that supports TabbedOut, you just show your server a confirmation code. From there you can monitor your tab, close out your tab, and leave at your convenience.
No more forgetting your credit card at a bar and if you suddenly have to run (oh crap my bus is coming in 2 minutes) you aren’t at the mercy of the bar tender who won’t make eye contact. Now if only they could add a way to order more beer so you wouldn’t have to flag down a waiter/waitress.
According to Austinist, they are looking to monetize this by charging a .99 convenience charge to customers at some point, but I can see some cases where it would be completely worth it. It’s Austin only right now, but I’m sure they are looking to expand.
